JULY 2008

Saturday, July 5th 10:30 am Walk Through History with Mr. Beverly Tyler as Abraham Woodhull, Farmer & Revolutionary War Spy. Location: Caroline Church parking lot at the Carriage Shed along Dyke Road at the Setauket Village Green. This tour lasts two hours and thirty minutes. Fee:$3 for members, $5 for nonmembers.

Saturday, July 12th 11:00 AM Walking Tour of East Setauket Shipbuilding, Captains, Chandlers and Wooden Ships, with Captain Beverly S. Tyler. Location: Brookhaven Town Dock, Shore Road, East Setauket. This tour lasts two hours and thirty minutes. Fee:$3 for members, $5 for nonmembers.

Saturday, July 19th 10:00 am - Noon Family Fun and Games, on the grounds of the Three Village Historical Society, 93 North Country Road, Setauket. Children ages 3-18 with accompanying adults compete with other family teams in playing Indian Double Ball, Ninepins, Quoits and other games. $5 per child; accompanying adults, free.

Monday, August 18-22 : American Heritage Camp. A weeklong experience for boys and girls ages 7-11 yrs.

Monday September 15, 2008 at 7:00 pm: Monthly Lecture Series: Selene Castrovilla, author of By the Sword a beautifully illustrated and carefully researched children's book about Benjamin Tallmadge's entrée into the American Revolution. Books are available for purchase at the TVHS Headquarters' Gift Shop.  FREE admission.  All are welcome.

Saturday & Sunday September 20 & 21, 10:00 am-5:00 pm: Annual Gallery North Outdoor Art Show: TVHS’s History Center, featuring the Sailing Circle exhibit and gift & book shop will be open to the public.

Sunday September 28, 2008 11:00 am-4:00 pm: Long Island Apple Festival: Activities will include colonial games such as a "tug-o-war," the opportunity to create an apple-head doll, pony rides and apple relay races. A food historian will conduct an open-hearth colonial cooking demonstration, and there will be an apple pie baking contest. There also will be hay rides, colonial storytelling, craft demonstrations and traditional music.

OCTOBER 2008

Saturday, October 11th at 10:30 am: Setauket Village Green Historic Walking Tour: Discover Setauket's rich history as you explore its architecture and beautiful natural environment.  Tours leave from the Setauket Neighborhood House, 95 Main Street in Setauket, across from the Mill Pond. This tour lasts one hour and fifteen minutes. (Note: Please arrive 5 minutes prior to the start times listed to ensure a prompt start.)  Fee:$3 for members, $5 for nonmembers.    

Spirits Tour - Saturday October 18th (Rain date: Saturday October 25th): The Three Village Historical Society will present its 14th Annual Spirits Tour. An annual favorite, the tour takes place in the churchyards of the Caroline and Setauket Presbyterian Churches as well as on the Setauket Village Green and features over a dozen elaborately-costumed interpreters portraying ghosts of the Three Villages’ storied past. Which spirits will haunt the churchyards this fall? Will they be friend or foe? Either way, an exiting and educational experience awaits all who are bold enough to brave the dark night to attend the tour. Pre-registration is strongly recommended.

Monday October 20, 2008 at 7:00 pm: Monthly Lecture Series: Kerriann Brosky & Joe Giaquinto present: Ghosts of Long Island, Stories of the Paranormal, Volume II. A book discussion & signing featuring places the pair investigated while preparing the book, many of which are in the Three Village area. The discussion will also cover the different types of ghosts, paranormal terms such as orbs and evp's, and a question and answer period followed by a book signing. The lecture will run for an hour and a half including the signing and books will be available for purchase that evening.  FREE admission.  All are welcome.

Monday November 17, 2008 at 7:00 pm: Monthly Lecture Series: This meeting marks TVHS members’ first opportunity to purchase and/or pick up their Candlelight House Tour tickets as well as their first opportunity to learn the locations of the homes on the tour.

DECEMBER 2008

30th Annual Candlelight House Tour - Friday December 5th & Saturday December 6th. For the past twenty-nine years, the Three Village Historical Society has presented its Candlelight House Tour, a spectacular showcase of select local homes decked out in dazzling holiday finery by talented local decorators. The 2008 Candlelight House Tour marks an amazing milestone: the 30th anniversary of the event and will take place on Friday December 6 and Saturday December 7. The tour will feature grand homes replete with stunning architectural features, customized interior design and striking original art by renowned local and other artists.
